PHILLIPS LYTLE LLP ATTORNEY JOEL THAYER TO PARTICIPATE AS PANELIST ON LINCOLN NETWORK WEBINAR, “THE FCC’S VISION FOR THE FUTURE OF 5G”
Washington, D.C. – Phillips Lytle LLP Attorney Joel Thayer will interview FCC Commissioner Mike O’Rielly for the Lincoln Network’s webinar titled, “The FCC’s Vision for the Future of 5G.” The meeting via webinar will take place on Wednesday, May 27th at 1:30 p.m.
The FCC has been moving quickly on important spectrum issues during this pandemic, such as promoting WiFi capabilities to provide more access to broadband and moving forward on key auctions that will support innovative 5G services, like telehealth and connected cars. While we’ve been able to get by on very few spectrum bands so far, this will soon no longer be the case as the density increases with our myriad of operating devices. The only solution is to find new spectrum bands to leverage.
In this discussion, Mr. O’Rielly and Mr. Thayer will cover the FCC’s spectrum agenda, how the its policies will develop in the coming months, and how it will help with our country’s economic recovery.
Mr. Thayer focuses his practice on telecommunications, regulatory and transaction matters, as well as privacy and cybersecurity issues. He has advised technology companies on the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and has authored guidance to help small business software developers navigate the ever-evolving regulatory landscape due to the GDPR’s enactment. Additionally, Mr. Thayer’s practice extends to both administrative and constitutional law.
Prior to joining Phillips Lytle, Mr. Thayer served as Policy Counsel for ACT | The App Association, where he advised on legal and policy issues related to antitrust, telecommunications, privacy, cybersecurity and intellectual property in Washington, D.C. His experience also includes working as legal clerk for the Federal Communications Commission.
