The potentially devastating effects of stress, anxiety and depression among U.S. lawyers is no longer a mystery. Recent studies conducted with law students, lawyers and judges clearly lay out the difficult issues faced in the increasingly demanding and complex legal profession. Stigma and inertia – silence – work against developing relevant systemic change for the improvement of attorneys’ personal and professional lives. This may be particularly true in legal communities of color, yet there is little direct evidence to paint an accurate picture of how these issues affect national diverse bar associations, including NAPABA and others.
