PHILLIPS LYTLE LLP ATTORNEYS JAMES R. GRASSO AND LUKE B. KALAMAS TO PRESENT “NYS PAY DISCRIMINATION UPDATES: WHAT EMPLOYERS NEED TO KNOW” AT ROCHESTER CHAMBER OF COMMERCE FRIDAY HR BRIEFING

Rochester, N.Y. – Phillips Lytle LLP Partner James R. Grasso and Associate Luke B. Kalamas will give a presentation titled, “NYS Pay Discrimination Updates: What Employers Need to Know,” at the Rochester Chamber of Commerce Friday HR Briefing on September 20th at 8:00 a.m. The event will take place at the Five Star Bank CityGate Branch – Flower City Community Room located at 395 Westfall Road in Rochester.

Mr. Grasso and Mr. Kalamas will discuss a pair of New York State pay equity bills, recently signed into law by Governor Andrew Cuomo, designed to address wage inequality and expand protections against pay discrimination. Among other things, the new laws will (i) amend New York’s current equal pay law to cover a number of additional protected categories, and (ii) prohibit employers from asking job applicants or current employees for salary history.

Mr. Grasso represents management in the private and public sectors in all aspects of labor and employment law. He counsels clients on workplace policies and practices and legal compliance issues, and represents employers in litigation concerning employment discrimination, harassment, wage and hour matters, wrongful termination, employment contract disputes, and confidentiality and non-compete agreements. Mr. Grasso appears regularly before state and federal courts in New York and before federal, state, and local administrative agencies such as the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, New York State Division of Human Rights, and New York City Commission on Human Rights. His practice also includes representing management in union organizing campaigns and collective bargaining negotiations, and defending management in labor arbitrations and before the National Labor Relations Board and New York State Public Employment Relations Board.

Mr. Kalamas concentrates his practice in the areas of labor and employment law and commercial litigation. He also has data security and privacy experience, including assisting clients with crisis planning and data breach response and notification. Mr. Kalamas has helped clients draft contracts and develop policies relative to data security issues in the employment context, including confidentiality agreements, as well as non-compete and other restrictive covenants.
