Phillips Lytle to receive national pro bono honor

Phillips Lytle has been selected to receive a national award for the law firm’s pro bono work. The National Legal Aid & Defender Association (NLADA) 2015 Beacon of Justice Award will be presented Tuesday to Phillips Lytle at the NLADA Exemplar Award Dinner at The Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, D.C.

The award honors law firms whose pro bono work has expanded opportunities for those unable to afford counsel. Neighborhood Legal Services nominated Phillips Lytle for the NLADA award. The firm donated nearly 4,000 hours of pro bono services in 2014.

Founded in 1911, the NLADA is America’s oldest and largest nonprofit association delivering legal services to those who cannot afford counsel. More than 500 private attorneys, general counsel and equal justice advocates will come together to celebrate the work of the Beacon of Justice winners, which includes some of the nation’s largest and most well-known firms.

“We devote significant time and resources to increasing access to opportunity for the underserved, and this award is a testament to the commitment we make every year to pro bono efforts,” said Timothy Hoover, a firm partner and member of the Pro Bono Panel of the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.

Hoover and Bill Christ will represent Phillips Lytle by attending the event.
