Phillips Lytle LLP Receives Hon. J. Clarence Herlihy Award from Prisoners’ Legal Services

Buffalo, N.Y. – Phillips Lytle LLP was presented with the Hon. J. Clarence Herlihy Award by Prisoners’ Legal Services (PLS) during the organization’s 10th Annual Celebration of National Pro Bono Week on November 18. The award, presented to a firm for its outstanding pro bono work, was accepted during the virtual program by David Kernan, a partner at Phillips Lytle.

Phillips Lytle is committed to sharing its legal expertise in pro bono matters, and its attorneys continue to volunteer their services where needed to help ensure equal access to justice for all.

In addition to the awards presentation, PLS hosted a presentation titled “Coping with COVID: Experiencing a Pandemic Behind Prison Walls.” Through artwork, stories and poems submitted by incarcerated individuals, as well as a performance by the Black Theatre Troupe of Upstate NY, attendees were able to get a glimpse of how the pandemic impacted the lives of incarcerated New Yorkers.

PLS is centrally located in Albany, but has regional offices throughout New York, including Buffalo. Their mission is to provide high quality, effective legal representation and assistance to indigent prisoners, help to secure their civil and human rights and advocate for more humane prisons and for a more humane criminal justice system.
