Albany, N.Y. – Phillips Lytle LLP Partner Richard E. Honen recently served as a judge of the FuzeHub Commercialization Competition at the New York State Innovation Summit, which was held November 8 and 9, 2021. Each year, as part of FuzeHub’s Jeff Lawrence Innovation Fund, companies across the state participate in the competition to demonstrate the commercialization potential of their technologies and products with an opportunity to win up to $50,000 in funding.
The competition helps small and medium-sized manufacturing and technology companies develop ideas and encourages proprietors to find investors and customers while strengthening their “go-to-market” strategy.
Mr. Honen focuses his practice in corporate, finance and venture capital law, as well as complex mergers and acquisitions and commercial litigation. He has been involved with some of the most significant deals in the Capital Region. He provides corporate counsel to a broad spectrum of companies – from startups to FORTUNE 50 firms – and has lectured extensively, particularly on topics of corporate law, venture capital and entrepreneurship.
Known as a tireless mentor who gives generously of his time and expertise to many emerging-growth companies, Mr. Honen has been a judge and mentor in other business plan events, including the New York Business Plan Competition, 43North, the New York State High School Business Plan Competition, Venture B Plan and Communitech (Canada). Over the last 30 years, he has volunteered thousands of pro bono hours educating, mentoring, and advising entrepreneurs and startup companies. He is a graduate of SUNY Albany (B.A., 1992) and the Albany Law School of Union University (J.D., 1985).
