Buffalo, N.Y. – Phillips Lytle LLP is pleased to announce that Joseph P. Heins has joined the firm as Special Counsel on its Real Estate Industry Team. After beginning his career in the firm’s Land, Environment and Energy Practice Group, Mr. Heins returns after serving as senior in-house counsel to one of the largest, privately owned real estate companies in the United States for more than five years.
“When I decided to move back into private practice, it was imperative to find a firm with both a history of playing significant roles in major projects throughout Western New York and beyond, and a vision to continue to grow its real estate practice for the next generation,” said Mr. Heins. “I knew that Phillips Lytle was that firm. I am excited to rejoin the real estate team and lend my in-house experience to continue the firm’s tradition of providing best in class legal counsel that drives business results.”
Mr. Heins focuses his practice on commercial real estate and complex transactions, assisting clients with leasing, sales, acquisitions, financing, public-private partnerships, project development and title matters. He works on a wide variety of property types, including retail, office, industrial, warehouse and multifamily, and has guided clients through a myriad of deals, such as ground leases, triple net (NNN) deals and 1031 exchanges.

Mr. Heins received his J.D. from the University of Notre Dame Law School in 2010 and his B.A. from Canisius University in 2007. He has been named to the Chambers USA Associates to Watch and Super Lawyers Rising Stars lists, and was the recipient of The Daily Record’s Excellence in Law Up and Coming Attorney Award.
