PHILLIPS LYTLE LLP ATTORNEY JOANNA J. CHEN TO RECEIVE HON. JUDITH S. KAYE COMMERCIAL AND FEDERAL LITIGATION SCHOLARSHIP
New York, N.Y. – Phillips Lytle LLP Attorney Joanna J. Chen will receive the Hon. Judith S. Kaye Commercial and Federal Litigation Scholarship from the New York State Bar Association Commercial and Federal Litigation Section. The award will be presented at an event on Wednesday, November 13 at the Ceremonial Courtroom at the Southern District of New York Courthouse located at 500 Pearl Street in Manhattan.
To honor the memory of Chief Judge Judith S. Kaye, the Commercial and Federal Litigation Section created through a gift made to The New York Bar Foundation, The Honorable Judith S. Kaye Commercial and Federal Litigation Scholarship. The Kaye Scholarship will be awarded to up to five female litigators who will be called Kaye Scholars and it will pay for their attendance at the 2019 Commercial Litigation Academy. The goal of the Kaye Scholarship is to increase the number of women prepared to serve as first chair in large commercial cases. The Commercial Litigation Academy is sponsored by the New York State Bar Association and the Commercial and Federal Litigation Section.
Ms. Chen concentrates her practice in the areas of class action and complex commercial disputes, including theft of trade secrets, breach of contract, and business torts. Additionally, Ms. Chen has experience in counseling private and public entities on employment matters and defending federal and state employment lawsuits involving FLSA, Titles II and VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, ADA, and the New York Human Rights Law. She has experience in federal and state motion practice, appellate practice, depositions, and e-discovery.
