Mr. Lillis concentrates his practice in all areas of intellectual property law, with particular emphasis on patent preparation and prosecution and opinion work in the software, mobile applications and electronic arts, and drafting and negotiating technology contracts, including licenses, service agreements, terms of use and privacy policies. In addition, Mr. Lillis assists clients with a wide variety of data security and privacy issues, including compliance with data privacy regulations such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the development of breach response strategies, defense of regulatory actions and preparing companies for cybersecurity risks associated with collecting, storing and processing personal data.

He has a degree in computer engineering from Syracuse University, and prior to working at Phillips Lytle, was a patent examiner for three years in the United States Patent and Trademark Office in Washington D.C., where he worked in the computer memory art unit. He advises clients on all phases of domestic and international patent and trademark portfolio management. Mr. Lillis is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. He is also a member of the Canadian Cross Border Team.
