PHILLIPS LYTLE TO HOST MONTHLY DATA SECURITY DOWNLOAD “HIPAA SECURITY RULE, HITECH AND GDPR FOR TODAY’S PRACTICE” AT ONE CANALSIDE DOWNTOWN BUFFALO OFFICE
Buffalo, NY – Phillips Lytle LLP will host the second in a series of monthly “Data Security Downloads” at Phillips Lytle’s One Canalside office in Downtown Buffalo. The program, titled “HIPAA Security Rule, HITECH and GDPR for Today’s Practice,” will be held on Thursday, April 19th at 8 a.m. Phillips Lytle attorneys will share knowledge of the ever-changing legal landscape and best practices as it relates to data security and privacy. The program is designed for business and IT leaders of covered entities under HIPAA, such as health care providers, health plans and health care clearinghouses, as well as business associates who provide services to HIPAA-covered entities.
Phillips Lytle Partner and Health Care Law Team Leader William P. Keefer, Partner and Data Security & Privacy Team Leader Jennifer A. Beckage, Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/US), and Attorney and Data Security & Privacy Team Member Jeffrey D. Coren will present.
Topics to be discussed include:
- Appreciate Certain Aspects of the HIPAA Security Rule and HITECH and how they Apply to Today’s Practices
- Review OIT Guidance on Cloud Storage and Its Practical Effect on Business
- Discuss the Added Layer of Complexity with GDPR, effective May 25, 2018
As leader of Phillips Lytle’s Health Care Law Practice Team, Mr. Keefer counsels hospitals, physician groups, and other health care clients on a broad array of issues, including fraud and abuse, corporate compliance, transactional arrangements, payer audits, agency actions, and federal and state court litigation.
Ms. Beckage leverages her technology background in responding to data breaches and cyberattacks, and advises clients about data security and privacy issues.
Before beginning her legal career, Ms. Beckage was an owner of a technology company. She successfully helped lead the company through an acquisition to a publicly traded company, in which she was retained in a management role overseeing operations of an e-services line of products in 11 states.
As a member of the Data Security & Privacy Practice Team, Mr. Coren assists clients with complying with federal and state cybersecurity regulations, and counsels clients in response to data breaches, ransomware, cyberattacks, and other data security incidents. He also represents clients in litigation related to data breaches and other data security incidents.
