PHILLIPS LYTLE LLP PARTNER MARK J. MORETTI SERVED ON CRITIQUE FACULTY AT NEW YORK STATE BAR ASSOCIATION’S YOUNG LAWYERS SECTION TRIAL ACADEMY AT CORNELL LAW SCHOOL
Rochester, N.Y. – Mark J. Moretti, a partner with Phillips Lytle LLP, a premier regional law firm that is recognized nationally for its legal excellence, served on the critique faculty at the New York State Bar Association’s (NYSBA) Young Lawyers Section Trial Academy at Cornell Law School, in Ithaca, March 29–April 2, 2015. This marked the sixth year Mr. Moretti has participated in this event.
The New York State Bar Association Trial Academy is a five-day trial techniques program that will teach, advance and improve the courtroom skills of young and new lawyers with an emphasis non-direct participation.
The materials for the program included both a criminal and civil fact pattern which were provided to attendees before the program’s start date. Each morning of the Trial Academy will feature a lecture on the following aspects of the trial process: Jury Selection, Opening Statements, Evidence, Foundations and Objections, Direct Examinations, Cross Examinations, Trial Motions and Motions in Limine, and Closing Arguments. Each afternoon the lecture group will separate into small break-out groups.
Mr. Moretti focuses his practice in the areas of business and tort litigation with a concentration on construction disputes, commercial contracts, ERISA, estate disputes, banking litigation, insurance defense and subrogation, commercial leases and other real property litigation including real property taxation and condemnation.
Listed in The Best Lawyers of America®, he was recognized as a Best Lawyers “Lawyer of the Year – Litigation-Construction” in 2012. Selected for the Upstate New York Super Lawyers® list from 2007 through 2014, he was cited The Daily Record for its 2013 Leaders in Law Award.
A former chairman of NYSBA Trial Section, he currently serves on the board of directors for the Volunteer Legal Services Project of Monroe County, Inc.
Mr. Moretti earned his J.D. from State University of New York at Buffalo School of Law and his B.A. from the University of Rochester.
