Buffalo, N.Y. – Phillips Lytle LLP, a premier regional law firm that is recognized nationally for its legal excellence, announced the addition of Joel A. Blanchet as a partner in the firm’s litigation group. Mr. Blanchet brings nearly two decades of experience litigating and trying cases around the country in areas ranging from toxic tort liability to complex financial transactions and investigations. He will be working out of the firm’s Buffalo and New York City offices.

A native of the Buffalo area, Mr. Blanchet joins Phillips Lytle from Kirkland & Ellis LLP, where he was a partner in the firm’s New York City office for more than eight years. Mr. Blanchet began his career in Kirkland’s Chicago office, where he was promoted to partner in 2005.

Mr. Blanchet focuses his practice on complex litigation matters for clients with important business interests at stake. In addition to his substantial first-chair trial experience, he has represented clients in some of the country’s highest-profile litigation matters. His representations include BP Exploration & Production Inc. and BP American Production Company in claims relating to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. He also represented The Dow Chemical Company in its dispute over its $15 Billion acquisition of Rohm and Haas during the global financial crisis.

Mr. Blanchet received his B.A. from Canisius College, magna cum laude, and his J.D. from University of Illinois College of Law, magna cum laude.
